“Racing Towards Excellence” Welcome back students, parents, and staff as we begin the race for knowledge and academic success. L.C. Smith Elementary is “revved-up” and ready to begin the “The RaceTowards Excellence.” As principal and “Pit Crew Chief,” I am looking forward to a challenging and successful year. The green flag will wave on August 24, 2009 at 7:55 a.m. to start the race. All “drivers”, our students, will be welcomed back by the “pit crew,” our awesome teachers and staff. As the “Pit Crew Chief,” I believe a child’s experience, cultural background, developmental nature, emotions, attitudes and expectations are all vital parts of L. C. Smith’s learning engine. I also believe where there is mutual respect, THERE WILL BE SUCCESS. The “pit crew” in each subject area --- Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education --- wants each student to be successful. The race for a great education is a process where both teacher and student strive to make meaningful connections. Children’s natural curiosity and the facilitation of a teacher are a wonderful team that can provide meaningful, purposeful, and authentic experiences for all. The crew at L.C. Smith wants your “driver” to be happy and successful. We believe that you play a key role. That role is to continually show interest in and support your child. The child who knows that his or her family is interested in and supports the school program will almost always enjoy greater success. Please share with your child’s teacher, counselor, assistant principal, or me any information you feel will help us better serve your child and/or your family. We believe that communication among parents, students and teachers is critical in assuring student success. The green flag has dropped; the race for the “Checkered Flag” has begun.
