Remote Instruction

Raymondville ISD teachers return to work on August 17, and the first day of instruction will be August 24. The following is an overview of the District Plan to resume instruction:

Remote Instruction

Raymondville ISD will provide remote instruction for every family that chooses to learn from home. Teachers are uploading lessons into Google Classroom and creating packets to be printed out. Teachers will record live daily instruction and have office hours where they will be available online and by phone in their classrooms.

Students choosing to complete a packet will pick up and drop off their lessons for the week each Friday.

Technology Lending Program

Beginning August 17, Raymondville ISD will check-out a device to each student whose family indicated that they do not have access to a device at home. RISD has iPads, Chromebooks, and laptops to check out, and the District ordered more iPads and laptops from the TEA bulk order. Families must complete the 2020 School Start Survey. The District will contact the families that indicated that they did not have access to a device at home during registration.

Internet Connectivity

Raymondville ISD will provide wireless internet in the parking lot of each campus. Students will be allowed to download instructional materials from inside their vehicle .  Students who do not have internet access may attend on-campus learning

4-week Transition Period

August 24 – September 18, the District will have a transition period to on-campus instruction. During this time, campuses will restrict the number of students allowed on campus to 10 per classroom.  The District will only allow on-campus learning for children from households without internet access, and the children of working families that do not have childcare.  Parents must complete the 2020 School Start Survey to request on-campus learning.  The board may extend the transition period for an additional four weeks. During the 4-week period, teachers will begin a transition to blended learning that combines some face-to-face instruction with online learning.

Grades

Grades will be taken for work completed on-campus and through the remote learning instructional model. The grading system, grading scale and number of required assignments will be consistent whether students are learning remotely or face-to-face. Grading will occur in six six-week grading cycles; progress reports will continue to be delivered every three weeks, with report cards being sent after every six-week grading period.

For more information about grading, see Board Policy EIA (LEGAL) and EIA (LOCAL). Grades earned through remote learning will count towards student GPAs for high school credit-bearing courses. For more information about class ranking, see Board Policy EIC (LEGAL) and EIC (LOCAL).

On-campus Learning Space

Students attending on-campus will be provided with a learning space in District facilities. These students will have a computer and access to district internet while they complete the same assignments as students working from home. Students will be required to wear masks during classroom learning and desks will be separated by six feet whenever possible.  A teacher or paraprofessional will monitor and provide support in the learning space.

Remote Learning Student Expectations

  • Students must be engaged in Google Classroom daily to be counted present (unless a parent requests printed lessons); absences will be documented by the teacher.
  • Engagement will be defined as one of the following:

  • Progress in the learning management system made that day

  • Progress (as defined in the approved learning plan) from teacher/student interactions made that day (phone calls, virtual meetings)

  • Turning-in of assignments that day

Attendance will be taken through Google Classroom

  • Courses will follow a similar scope and sequence as in-person instruction and will cover all required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Students are required to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and established classroom norms just as they would be during in-person attendance.
  • In-person grading and GPA guidelines will be in effect, including policies for late work.
  • In-person attendance rules will be in effect (90/10 Rule)

o TEC §25.092 – “A student in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days that the class is offered.”

o TEC §25.092 will be in effect in 2020-2021, whether the student is learning in-person or remotely.
