Raymondville ISD Receives the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Raymondville Independent School District (RISD), for the 5th consecutive year, has earned a major recognition for its commitment to financial transparency and accountability. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded RISD the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. This is the highest honor in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and receiving it is significant.
The award means that an impartial panel reviewed the district’s financial report and found it met the highest standards, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and transparency. The report was praised for its “spirit of full disclosure,” making it easy for the public to understand the district’s financial story.
Along with this certificate, RISD also received the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (AFRA), recognizing the finance team and individuals who worked hard to make this happen. Their dedication to responsible financial management ensures that district funds are handled with care and accountability, benefiting students, teachers, and the entire community.
“We always strive to keep our community informed,” said RISD Chief Financial Officer David Longoria. “The GFOA recognition is an indicator of our success in that endeavor, and the district is proud to receive this award for the fifth year in a row. It’s a testament to the dedication of our staff and the district’s commitment to excellence and transparency.”
Mr. Longoria is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has over 20 years of experience with five of those being in public accounting and 12 in governmental accounting. Together, the Business Office staff have over 150 years of combined experience.
Superintendent Stetson Roane expressed appreciation for the recognition, saying, “This award reflects the hard work and commitment of our finance team. Keeping our district’s financial records clear and accessible isn’t just about numbers—it’s about building trust with our community. We’re proud to set a high standard for transparency and responsibility.”
The GFOA, which supports over 21,000 members in government finance, encourages financial excellence and best practices across the country. RISD’s recognition puts it among the top school districts in financial reporting.
A formal presentation of the award will take place at the districts next board meeting, where the team behind this achievement will be celebrated. This recognition reinforces RISD’s ongoing commitment to financial integrity and keeping the community informed every step of the way.
