AVID Southern Region State Director, Patrick Briggs, visited Raymondville ISD students on Monday, January 22, 2018. His presentation motivated students to focus on continuing their education. After his presentation, Mr. Briggs had the opportunity to visit classrooms and observe AVID students engaged in college readiness activities.
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is an academic elective class based on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. The three main components of the program are: academic instruction, tutorial support and motivational activities.
The RECHS Library Club is Achieving Excellence Together by providing elementary students with books to promote a reading culture in the Raymondville community. The club raised money during sport events to purchase 1,100 books. These books were distributed to L.C. Smith Elementary and Pittman Elementary students. The high school students volunteered to wrap all the books before school, during lunch and after school. The library club also participated by having a craft time and then visited each classroom delivering the books. The Elementary students were thrilled to receive the books. Our RECHS Library Club had a blast visiting with all of the little ones. Special thanks to the RECHS counselor Mrs. Salinas for helping with the distribution. We would like to recognize the RECHS Media Specialist, Manuel Gomez, for sponsoring the Library Club and coordinating this great event. We are #AchievingExcellenceTogether !
